Pythagoras lived in the sixth century B.C. and none of his writings have survived. We do not know how Pythagoras proved his theorem, but so far, more than 300 different proofs have been discovered. Many of the famous names in mathematics and science, including Euclid, Pappus and Leonardo da Vinci, have produced proofs of their own.
